Gallery Showcase ICONS EXHIBITION FEATURES FAMOUS PHOTOGRAPHS OF OUR TIME SANTA FE — Monroe Gallery of Photography, 112 Don Gaspar, is pleased to present "ICONS", a major exhibition featuring 55 of the most familiar and well-known photographs ever created. The exhibition includes selections from Joe McNally's "Faces Of Ground Zero" Giant Polaroid collection, marking the first time these images have been exhibited in a gallery, following a seven-city tour viewed by nearly one million people. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Friday, July 9, from 5 to 8, with Joe McNally in attendance. The exhibition continues through September 26. "ICONS" explores images of historical events and personalities of our time, as well as photographic images that have themselves become icons in our time. We have seen these photographs reproduced numerous times in newspapers, magazines, books and documentaries. Universally relevant, they reflect the past, the present, and the changing times. These unforgettable images are imbedded in our collective consciousness; they are defining moments chronicling our visual history. The photographers in this exhibition have captured dramatic moments in history, and illustrate the power of photography to inform, persuade, enlighten and enrich the viewer's life. In addition to selections from "Faces Of Ground Zero", the exhibition includes: Bernice Abbott's "Nightview", Eddie Adams' "Street Execution of a Vietcong Prisoner," Harold Edgerton's "The Kick", Alfred Eisenstaedt's "V-J Day", Nat Fein's "The Babe Bows Out", Robert Doisneau's "The Kiss"; Andreas Feininger's "The Photojournalist", Carl Mydan's "General Douglas MacArthur Landing at Luzon", Byron Rollins "Dewey Defeats Truman", Joe Rosenthal's "Raising the Flag at Iwo Jima", Sam Shere's "The Hindenburg Disaster", W. Eugene Smith's "Walk to Paradise Garden", Gordon Park's "American Gothic", and Nick Ut's "Napalm Strike" among many other culturally and historically significant photographs. Also featured are iconic photographs of Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Malcolm X, Che Guevara, Charles Lindbergh, Babe Ruth, Muhammad Ali, Jackie Robinson, Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Jackson Pollock, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Titanic, and many others.
