MAKING MOVIES February 1 - April 20 Santa Fe--Monroe Gallery of Photography, 112 Don Gaspar, is pleased to announce: "MAKING MOVIES", an exhibition of photographs from the sets of classic films from the 20th Century. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Friday, February 1, 2008, from 5 - 7 PM, with photographer Brian Hamill in attendance Diane Keaton and Woody Allen, 59th Street Bridge, New York, 1978, "Manhattan" On the set of every movie is a still photographer, documenting the movie's action (often alongside the camera) to be used in publicizing it. They provide the images for posters, photographs in newspapers and magazines, and other media. Over time, photographs from classic movies have developed historical and cultural importance. Through more than 50 photographs the exhibition takes us on a tour through the process of making movies; we are afforded a glimpse of the creation, a process whose end results are the films we have all learned from, admired, and loved. Photographs are included from the sets of Annie Hall, Diary of Anne Frank, Funny Lady, Giant, Madame, Marriage Italian Style, Manhattan, Marnie, Midnight Cowboy, The Godfather, The Misfits, Psycho, Raging Bull, Safety Last, Taxi Driver, The Ten Commandments, Up The Sandbox, White Heat, and many others. The 80th Annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 24.
